JJS Mentorship Program

JJS Mentorship Program

At Valley Office Systems, we see power and value in youth. We believe that when given an opportunity to learn about work and business, they’ll discover that potential and see that a great career and a happy life are within their reach. That’s why we’ve partnered with Juvenile Justice Systems to start a pilot program for business mentorships. Whether you’re looking for a done-in-a-day project or a long-term mentorship, Juvenile Justice Systems has a project to fit your organization.

How you can get involved:

Done in a Day

Competency development is one of the major goals of JJS’s approach. They are always looking for ways to impart life skills before the youth returns to the community. These skills contribute to lower re-offending rates and long-term growth for the youth. One way we, as businesses, can help is by taking part in a life skills class. Whether this is teaching a class on how to write a resume, dressing for the office, or networking, your skills can have a major impact as they make their way into the workforce.

If teaching is not your thing, there are also projects that your organization can do as a group.  There are facilities located throughout the state that could use your help from applying a fresh coat of paint or sprucing up the landscaping.

Long-Term Opportunities

Long-term mentorships are what we at Valley Office Systems are most excited to be a part of. The supportive, healthy relationships formed between mentors and mentees are both immediate and long-term and contribute to a host of benefits for mentors and mentees.  Our mentees will be job shadowing in all aspects of our business from our warehouse to service calls.

JJS will match you with a child and provide transportation to and from your business. These mentorships are the most rewarding; however they do require a long-term commitment of at least three months and weekly meetings with your mentees.

For more information about any of these opportunities or to get your application process started, please contact Kevin Newsome from Juvenile Justice Services at knewsome@utah.gov or 801-265-5964. You can also download the application here
